This Wednesday is our February Gathering. By popular demand our focus will be American Girl Book Characters. Don’t own a doll or never read the books? No worries! This program is designed to introduce students to 6 of the popular book characters. Activities relate to an historic experience described in the first chapter of each book. I guarantee they will want to read more. Although girls are likely to be more enthusiastic, boys are encouraged to give it a try. No one can truly understand history without learning about HERstory.
Time is flying by! Homeschool Gathering is this Wednesday at 10:30. Our activity is “I Spy” jars. The kids will make their own I Spy Jars and discover some fun games to reinforce math and language skills. Jars, rice and trinkets will be provided. If you have a junk drawer or toy box that needs cleaning out, please bring some treasures!
This month’s Homeschool Gathering will be a little change of pace. Please join us for a Family Read-in on Wednesday, December 30th in the Story Room. Read, play games, relax and enjoy family and friends. Cookies and cider will be served from 9 am to 4:30 pm at this informal drop-in. Grandparents and grandchildren are encouraged to share the gift of reading together. And as an outreach, Homeschool Gatherers will be reading to/with seniors from area nursing homes, assisted living and senior centers. What better way to warm the Holidays than to spread youthful cheer to a senior in need? If you would like to participate in the outreach please email (firstname.lastname@example.org) the time you can commit (1 hour is recommended). As time slots are filled I will send updates. Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Homeschool Gathering is this coming Wednesday. Join us to go back in time to the 1600’s to compare our family holiday traditions to the first Thanksgiving. Try your hand at grinding corn and spinning yarn. Make your own Thanksgiving centerpiece craft.
The summer is drawing to a close and we are busy planning for the school year. Our August Homeschool Gathering will be Wednesday, August 26th at 10:30am. As a fun ice-breaker for new homeschool families and returning ones alike, we are holding our own “Minute to Win It!” Activities will be easy enough for our youngest students with a few brain teasers and team building challenges for older students thrown in for good measure.
